Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Orleans, MA

Our Technical Services Division has an immediate opening for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to provide operation, maintenance, and testing services of wastewater treatment plants/systems and technical support to project managers and other staff. The Operator is part of an on-call rotation requiring night and weekend coverage as needed. As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, most of your work is performed in the field. The remaining portion of work may be spent in travel or an office setting.

Duties would include, but not limited, to the following:

  • Follow and maintain procedures and protocols in operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities within customer, regulatory, permit, and contractual requirements.
  • Independently identify operation and maintenance or safety problems within a given wastewater treatment system.
  • Conduct sampling and field analysis as required by local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Adjust system components as needed for proper working order.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of assigned facilities.
  • Respond to alarms within one hour when on call, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete and submit required reports on a timely basis.
  • Complete and maintain site-specific operation and maintenance record logs and forms.
  • Provide accurate record keeping per regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement for the operation and maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Assist other wastewater treatment plant operators in the performance of their duties.
  • Maintain assigned company vehicle.
  • Other duties as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Operators License (minimum Grade 4)
  • Can prioritize and work under required schedules.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and pass motor vehicle insurance check for ability to drive Coastal Engineering Company vehicles.
  • Proficient mathematical skills and knowledge of local regulatory requirements are required.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Roughly 80% of work is performed in the field. The remaining portion of work may be spent in travel and/or office setting. Work often involves deadlines imposed by others which must be met. Lifting of equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs.), climbing stairs and ladders, able to reach, bend, stretch, twist, squat, stand on feet for extended periods, work outside in all weather conditions and/or within a noisy environment is required. Must follow safety and personal protection protocols related to exposure to contaminants, chemicals, and hazardous equipment.
