Waterfront Senior Project Engineer

Coastal Engineering Co., Inc. is seeking a Waterfront Senior Project Engineer for our growing Waterfront/Marine Division. The role will be responsible for technical requirements of projects, assisting Project Managers in planning and managing assignments, directing and coordinating engineering and permitting staff for waterfront engineering projects including, but not limited to, marinas, marine terminals, piers, wharves, community waterfronts, recreational piers, harbors, and waterfront parks.

Job duties include:

  • Perform and/or supervise waterfront projects, which may include directing the work of engineers, technicians, administrative staff, and subcontractors for a variety of waterfront projects with varying levels of complexity and size.
  • Review and/or prepare surveys, progress reports, contract documents, and other project documents.
  • Review and/or conduct site investigations, prepare and edit technical reports and feasibility studies.
  • Review project documents and field data to verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Review environmental regulations and prepare project work plans.
  • Work with Permitting Specialist to prepare environmental permit applications, reports, notices, etc.
  • Attend and present at interviews, project meetings, community outreach, and public hearings.
  • Review and/or conduct construction site observations and prepare field reports.
  • Assist Project Managers and Division Managers with marketing strategies to expand company’s market position, including client development, scope evaluation/development, proposal writing, and project cost estimating.
  • Other duties as appropriate.


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • EIT certification; PE registration preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of current Building Code(s) and the design of steel, timber, and reinforced concrete waterfront structures.
  • Experience with geotechnical engineering to assist in the design of soil/structure interaction elements (i.e, retaining walls, bulkheads, piles, etc.).
  • Experience in preparation of construction documents with attention to detail and ability to think critically.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, ability to communicate effectively with internal and external teams.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, Bluebeam, MathCAD, Tedds, or CEDAS.
  • Valid driver’s license.
