Harwich Allen Harbor infrastructure was in poor condition and in need of reconstruction. Coastal Engineering Co. provided professional engineering and permitting assistance services for new bulkhead, parking lot, drainage, boat ramp and pier, as well as assisted the town to obtain state grant to fund a portion of the work. Innovative solutions included sustainable materials such as porous pavement which traps suspended solids and filters pollutants. A new bulkhead was similarly designed by Coastal for the adjacent private marina. At the EPA requirement, a boat wash recycle system that contains the water, drains it into a basin and then pumps it back into the power washer was included in the design. Steel was specified for the recycle system construction in order to support commercial vessels up to 40,000 lbs in weight.
