Bourne Housing Authority Elderly Housing is a two story wood-framed structure originally built in the 1950s as a motel and later converted to congregate senior living apartments. The site being within ¼ mile of the ocean, the weather conditions accelerated deterioration of ferrous metal building components in the existing deck, window trim, and porch railings. The combination of structural deterioration and proximity to vehicular traffic posed safety concerns and prompted the need for extensive repairs to the existing deck and railing system. The project was executed using a phased approach, with future phases providing additional repairs to allow ongoing maintenance in a manageable format. Eventually, a complete replacement of the decking assembly was performed, including new accessible railings, framing, and posts.
