Cape Cod Bible Alliance Church needed to be rebuilt from ground up following a devastating fire. Coastal Engineering Co. (CEC) developed structural and civil engineering plans, viewing the rebuilding process as an opportunity to make improvements to the building’s durability and efficiency as well as the facility’s layout and accessibility. The parking lot was expanded to 128 parking spaces. The site was regraded to create a user friendly walk out at the lower level. The building footprint grew 10,000 SF to allow for more space for classrooms and youth activities. Non- combustible components—including a structural steel frame, precast concrete flooring, and roof trusses with a nonflammable exterior siding—were specified wherever possible. Super-insulated new construction features 12"-thick exterior walls and high-efficiency HVAC and mechanical systems. Stormwater system design utilizes LID measures such as vegetative buffer strips and drainage swales. For the work on this project, CEC was awarded gold in the 2016 BRICC Awards’ Excellence in Engineering category.
