Flax Pond Recreation Area

Flax Pond Recreation Area on Dupont Avenue in West Yarmouth is a popular town destination, with its public beach, volleyball and basketball court, and picnic area attracting many visitors, including participants of a summer kids program. Coastal Engineering Co. has been providing operation and maintenance for the area’s wastewater treatment plant since 2014. The treatment system consists of Bioclere trickling filter technology with pre-aeration, flow equalization, and anoxic denitrification to reduce the organic load and to meet a total nitrogen discharge limit of 19 mg/l. Disposal of the treated effluent is to leaching field under the area’s parking lot. Currently, Coastal Engineering performs monthly operation and maintenance of the facility. Process control chemicals are dosed from the control building.
