Holway Street Revetment Repair

The Town-owned portion of the existing, licensed stone revetment at the end of Holway Street, fronting Chatham Harbor, had experienced settling during the coastal storm in April 2007, and was being impacted by the encroachment of the channel due to coastal processes.

As a result, the Town of Chatham undertook the repair of the existing revetment, with the placement of two new rows of five 10-ton toe stones at the base of the existing revetment, and the addition of smaller stones, as needed. This provided a stable base to the coastal bank and interlocked with the adjacent shorefront structures – thus protecting the existing road at the top of the bank.

This was a turn-key project, which was completed in a short time frame. All of the work was performed by crane from the landward side of the property, with no adverse environmental impact to the waterway from the material or equipment utilized.
