On behalf of Pappas Enterprises, Jay Cashman, Inc. engaged the services of Coastal Engineering Co. to investigate, design, and permit extensive improvements at the site of the Pappas Commerce Center located along the Reserved Channel. The final phase of the project involves shore protection, pedestrian walkway and green link, major stormwater drainage and road improvements to Pappas Way which connects Summer and East First Streets. This industrial portion of the South Boston waterfront is being developed to include a small park with two public viewing/fishing piers in the Reserved Channel adjacent to Pappas Way. The project includes the replacement of the existing sheet pile bulkhead along the Reserved Channel with about 1700 linear feet of rock revetment and construction of a large drilled shaft caisson in the Reserved Channel to support a 150KW wind turbine that will be installed in Phase 2 of the project. This work is part of an effort to obtain LEED certification for the Pappas Commerce, currently a water-dependent industrial park, which the owners plan to rehabilitate as a mixed-use “urban lifestyle center”. In addition, Coastal Engineering Co. provided design for a supplement to the existing slope at Haror Commons, the roadway, walkway, guardrail & handrail, utilities, and landscaping.
