Old Comers Road Thumb

Roadway realignment and culvert replacement with associated fish ladder

Town of Chatham reconstructed approximately 2,600 feet of Old Comers road which included relocating and realigning almost 1,000 feet of the road for safety improvement. An important part of the project was replacing an existing 2' diameter culvert below the road with a 4’ diameter culvert so that a fish ladder to assist fish migrating between Stillwater Pond and Lovers lane could be constructed. Coastal Engineering Company (CEC) provided professional services for land survey of existing conditions and wetland boundaries, as well as civil engineering and environmental permitting for horizontal and vertical re-alignment of the roadway, widening of the road surface from 20 feet to 26 feet, and installation of new stormwater drainage systems. Permitting agencies involved included local conservation commission, Mass DEP, Mass DMF, MEPA ENF, Massachusetts Historical Commission, and Scenic Road permitting. CEC also prepared the Project Manual and invitation to bid and evaluated bids received on behalf of the Town. CEC then provided construction layout services and performed progress inspections through successful completion of the project.
