The Town of Dennis’ public boat launching facility on the Bass River needed to be completely rehabilitated due to the deterioration of the existing paved ramp and bulkhead. The site also had inadequate parking and poor drainage, with stormwater from the street directly discharged into the river.
The rehabilitation project included: reconstruction and replacement of the existing paved boat ramp with a reinforced concrete ramp; reworking the parking lot layout to remove obstacles and increase the number of available trailer spaces to allow for temporary tie-up of boats for loading and unloading; resurfacing the entire parking area; and installation of a new subsurface drainage retention system and pre- treatment for stormwater runoff.
The boat ramp was also widened so that two boats could launch simultaneously, and pitched at a steeper slope to allow for deeper draft boats. Other enhancements included installation of a new bulkhead and new floats, addition of a steel reinforced timber guardrail, and landscaping improvements. The result is a boat launching facility that is now safer, more functional, and able to be enjoyed by more town residents and visitors.
