Engineering Consultation Services for Repairs to the USCG Nantucket Housing Campus

Coastal Engineering Company worked with Edward Rowse Architects to provide civil and structural engineering consultation services for repairs to the USCG Nantucket Housing Campus sites located at Gouin Village and Loran Station.

Gouin Village Housing was built in the 1960s. It consists of ten two-story wood frame buildings with gable roofs in a simple Colonial Revival style. One building is a single-family house; the other nine buildings are duplex townhouse dwellings. Roofs are asphalt shingle. Siding is wood shingle, and trim is wood. Loran Station Housing was built in 1962 and is located adjacent to the former Coast Guard Long Range Navigation (Loran) Station. Although the Loran Station is closed, the housing is used by Coast Guard personnel assigned to Station Brant Point. Loran Station Housing consists of six single story wood frame buildings with gable roofs - two single family houses and four duplex dwellings. Loran Station Housing has simple Colonial Revival detailing, with wood shingle siding, entrance porticos, and asphalt shingle roofing. Both complexes have playgrounds that are in poor condition.

The project consisted of replacing the roofs, replacing wood trim, partial replacement of the wood shingle siding, removing deteriorated playgrounds at both areas, and installing new playgrounds. The work also includeed attic insulation and pipe insulation, as well as interior repairs at two units with extensive water damage in the kitchen.
