Gray’s Beach boardwalk is a pre-existing pier-type structure, delineated by a shoreline to the east, marsh to the north and south, and a creek to the west. The boardwalk was constructed in phases and had been shortened and rebuilt several times. Being in daily use, it had reached a point where a full investigation was warranted. Coastal Engineering Company, Inc. was contracted to evaluate the boardwalk to see if the existing structure has sustained either biological or physical damage. An above and partial underwater survey has been conducted in accordance with Naval Engineering Facilities Service Center guidelines for underwater inspection criteria. Using the information gathered in the investigation, Coastal Engineering Co. prepared a structural evaluation report, repair recommendations, and cost analysis for the above referenced site, along with references, photographs, calculations, and construction drawings associated with the task at hand.
