Cape Housing Institute is a collaborative effort between Housing Assistance Corporation and Community Development Partnership to provide municipal officials with the resources needed to boost the production of affordable housing throughout the region.
John Bologna, P.E., President of Coastal Engineering Co. and Richard Fenuccio, President of Brown, Lindquist, Fenuccio & Raber Architects Inc. presented at the institute's Session 3: Zoning and Site Selection, giving local housing design professionals' perspective on the current zoning policies across Cape Cod. Their message was "Zoning is Broken": certain outdated by-laws need to change in order for the Cape to become a more affordable, welcoming home for year-round residents of diverse demographics. Related challenges and opportunities were highlighted, sparking a lively discussion on what types of housing we want to see in the future and how we can encourage change as citizens and local government officials. The following questions were discussed:
• What is Zoning?
• Visioning
• Current Zoning (Problems & Pitfalls)
• Housing Types Now and in the Future
• Zoning Options
• Site Selection, Infrastructure & the Importance of Feasibility Studies
• Real World Case Study: Village Centered/Re-development Approach
